A raunchy and smart high school romp with a queer twist

Posted on October 12, 2023 by nUNARCHa

Movie Bottoms Review

Movie Bottoms is a raunchy, smartly lean high school romp from director Emma Seligman and co-writer Rachel Sennott. Starring Ayo Edebiri, the film brings a new perspective to female teen comedy.

PJ and Josie are two libidinous lesbian dweebs who start an after-school fight club under the auspices of sisterhood, when really they just want to fuck the cheerleaders.

PJ (Rachel Sennott) and Josie (Ayo Edebiri) are two best friends at a prestigious all-girls high school. PJ is a nerd and Josie is a sexy girl. But when PJ finds out that Josie has a crush on her best friend Isabel (Marshawn Lynch) and Josie finds out that Isabel is dating her boyfriend Jeff (Nicholas Galitzine), PJ and Josie are forced to team up to prevent Isabel from cheating on them.

Director Emma Seligman says she wanted to bring back over-the-top high school movies with a queer twist. She succeeded with Bottoms, a hilarious raunchy comedy that will delight those who love its headliners and the genre.

Seligman’s chemistry between her stars PJ and Josie is infectious. She lets them bicker, lie and occasionally punch each other like childhood best friends and allows them to shine individually as well. She also gives them room to chew the scenery and it is clear that everyone on set is having a blast with their roles.

The supporting cast is also solid, especially Marshawn Lynch, a big-screen natural as the school’s history teacher and ally of Josie and PJ. He’s a perfect foil to the girls as he deftly delivers his lines about putting the football team ahead of the women’s self-defense club and lusting after the cheerleaders.

Bottoms is a surprisingly smart teen comedy that takes pride in its feminist and feminist message while being fully aware of how silly it is. It tackles themes like hyper-masculinity, allyship and violence against women with grace and wit. It’s not necessarily empowering to see lusty women act like luscious, manipulative, lying creeps but it is refreshing to see character archetypes normally reserved for straight dudes be played by female actresses and characters.

But will they be able to save their friendship?

The movie is funny and raunchy, but also has a more serious side. It depicts the way that small towns can still be stuck in outdated attitudes. It points out how these attitudes affect the lives of the people living there. It also shows how it is possible to be both a nerd and a sexy girl.

The acting is great in this movie. Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri both deliver outstanding performances. They are able to portray their characters’ different personalities very well. They are able to make their characters likable, even though they are a bit over the top at times.

In addition to the great acting, the movie has a great sense of humor. It is a refreshingly unique and raunchy queer comedy. It also has a lot of memorable lines that are ready-made to repeat with friends. It is definitely a movie that will be enjoyed by both straight and gay audiences alike.

Overall, Bottoms is a hilarious and raunchy film that is sure to please audiences of all ages. It is a must-see for anyone who loves teen comedies. It is a sideways heir to classics like Heathers and But I’m a Cheerleader. With a talented cast, an entertaining plot, and a hilarious script, this movie is sure to be a hit.

Will PJ and Josie be able to save themselves?

PJ and Josie’s self-defense sessions are a blast of chaotic, overstimulating fun. They reenact some of the best scream laughing moments from movies like Scream and Movie 43, but they also drop into more serious moments that have real impact. In one, for example, the girls discuss their own experiences with harassment and violence. Josie describes her time in juvie and how she has had a stalker, while another girl, Sylvie, exclaims she looks forward to killing her stepfather.

Despite all of their wild schemes, the girls still find themselves social outcasts. In an attempt to find a group of girlfriends, they convince their teacher Mr. G (Marshawn Lynch), who’s going through his own marital crisis, to take their ill-advised club seriously.

Bottoms is a comedy that knows how to have its cake and eat it too. It takes Gen Z vibes and mixes them with the growth-through-conflict mindset from hyper-masculine films of the 90s. The result is a movie that’s surprisingly touching and a lot of fun to watch. It’s just a shame that it doesn’t stick to a consistent tone as much as it could. Its breakneck pace works against it at times, and some of the jokes get lost in the shuffle. But if you can look past that, it’s an instant lesbian classic.

Exploring the Complexities of the Atomic Bomb: Three Movies

Posted on October 12, 2023 by nUNARCHa

Three Movies About the Atomic Bomb

78 years ago, the world entered the nuclear age with the use of the first atomic bomb. These movies explore the complexities of that event and the moral dilemmas faced by those involved.

Whether in dramatic, comedic, or pseudo-documentary style, these films explore the origins, effects, and consequences of the dawning of the atomic age.

Oppenheimer

The story of the man who helped create a world-changing weapon seems like an unlikely subject for a summer blockbuster, but Christopher Nolan’s new film Oppenheimer delivers. The director is well-known for his hyper-stylized, large-scale films and the movie, which opens on July 21, stars Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer, the “father of the atomic bomb.”

His leadership in the Manhattan Project and his post-war disgust at what he had created is well known. But the details of his personal life and his attempts to regulate nuclear weapons remain largely obscure.

Nolan’s film also stars Emily Blunt as Oppenheimer’s biologist wife Kitty, Matt Damon as the head of the Manhattan Project Leslie Groves, and Robert Downey Jr. as U.S. Atomic Energy Commission member Lewis Strauss. Casey Affleck, Josh Hartnett, Rami Malek and Kenneth Branagh round out the cast.

Black Rain

While Black Rain isn’t as powerful as On the Beach, it still offers a poignant, disturbing look at the consequences of nuclear weapons.

The film follows Yasuko, a young Japanese woman, as she deals with the physical and psychological effects of radiation poisoning following the 1945 bombing of Hiroshima. Yasuko is one of many surviving victims who are called hibakusha.

This 1989 thriller is not only a chilling look at the aftermath of the atomic bomb, but it also provides a surprisingly complex and pessimistic undercurrent that, once recognized, radically changes how we should think about Michael Douglas’s tough cop protagonist and his clash with Japanese culture.

The film avoids easy cultural jokes, and Conklin’s casual racism and sense of American superiority are a far cry from the unabashedly racist characters seen in other cop movies at the time.

Hiroshima

A powerful film about the effects of nuclear warfare that avoids cliched Hollywood tropes. It is a tragic depiction of humanity’s ability to make the worst decisions in the face of an unimaginable catastrophe.

In this movie, the viewer is witness to the destruction of Hiroshima by an atomic bomb dropped by the U.S. on August 6, 1945. Its devastating effects are portrayed in both the immediate aftermath of the explosion as well as the long-term consequences of radiation poisoning.

This French New Wave film evokes the fear of a global thermonuclear war. It depicts a man’s struggle to balance his moral responsibilities as he creates an atomic bomb. It explores many themes including Oppenheimer’s personal and professional struggles, McCarthyism and the revolutionary physics of the Manhattan Project.

On the Beach

Despite the film’s melodrama, Gregory Peck and Ava Gardner have real gravitas and this is one of Hollywood’s most serious movies about nuclear war. The late Stanley Kramer scheduled premieres of the movie in 18 world capitals on the same day and heads of state were often on hand to watch it, adding weight to its apocalyptic climax.

As a result of the Cold War, films about nuclear disaster were not commonplace until 1959 and this drama was based on Nevil Shute’s novel of the same name. It posits that Australia and a couple of devastated US cities are the only places left for humans to survive after a full-scale nuclear war as radioactive winds from elsewhere slowly devastate mankind. It’s a sobering reminder that no amount of good wishes can save mankind when it comes to nuclear war.

The Day After

Currently streaming on YouTube, The Day After is a made-for-TV film that dramatizes what would happen if nuclear war between the Soviet Union and the United States triggered a global disaster. The movie focuses on the experiences of residents in Lawrence and Kansas City, Missouri. It’s an unsettling view of a world without electricity, clean drinking water or food. Starring Jason Robards and JoBeth Williams, the movie is still a terrifying wake-up call nearly 40 years later.

The film’s director, Nicholas Meyer, had a tough time getting the project off the ground because he didn’t want to turn The Day After into a regular Hollywood disaster flick. He wanted to present the facts about what would happen in a nuclear attack. He even filmed several scenes that were cut or censored by ABC because they were too graphic.

Watch Japanese Movies on Netflix From Any Country With Surfshark VPN

Posted on October 11, 2023 by nUNARCHa

Surfshark VPN – Watch Japanese Movies on Netflix From Any Country

With Surfshark VPN, you can access Japanese movies on Netflix from any country. Check out these great films that explore themes of family, overcoming obstacles, and more.

A classic Studio Ghibli movie, this film is a wartime drama with mesmerizing animations. It’s also a great way to learn about Japanese culture and history.

37 Seconds

In the midst of a media representation renaissance, this coming-of-age movie takes a bold stance on disability. The film centers around Yuma, a 23-year-old aspiring manga artist with cerebral palsy who ghost writes her questionable bestie’s comics and is searching for independence.

The film doesn’t fixate on Yuma’s condition, though it does highlight the dehumanizing behavior she experiences because of her wheelchair. It also explores her emotional boundaries and how she finds a piece of herself she didn’t know was missing.

This is a great movie for beginner learners to understand family dynamics and build Japanese competency. The slow dialogue and simple emotions make it easy to keep up with and comprehend. Try watching it with subtitles and rewatching to improve retention.

Shin Godzilla

One of the best Japanese movies on Netflix, Shin Godzilla is a stunning, epic wartime drama with mesmerizing animation. The story is about a former assassin who becomes a wandering swordsman and helps people in need.

Hideaki Anno’s fingerprints are all over this film, from the narrow focus on byzantine political gamesmanship to the matter-of-fact grandeur with which Godzilla stomps through Tokyo. And the running gag about bureaucratic roles constantly changing and overlapping clearly satirizes Japan’s stunned, sluggish response to the 2011 tsunami and Fukushima nuclear disaster.

Another great Japanese movie to watch is Tuna Girl, which follows the sweet story of a clumsy fishery student who seeks out her place in a world-renowned research institute. This film is also a good choice for those learning Japanese, as it provides an in-depth look into rural Japan.

My Tomorrow Your Yesterday

A mix of fantasy, romance, and sci-fi, this movie explores the complexities of first love. It also addresses social issues and the nature of fate.

It is a heart-warming story of a clumsy fishery student and her struggles to find her place in life. The animation is beautiful and the movie touches upon themes of family, loss, and redemption.

This Studio Ghibli masterpiece is a must-watch for any anime fan. It features the story of a young girl who falls in love with her classmate. However, she soon discovers that her love is not reciprocated. The mesmerizing animation has given the film a prestigious reputation.

Ride or Die

This movie can get very graphic at times, but it’s worth it for the story and moral quandaries that run the gamut. Based on Ching Nakamura’s adult manga Gunjo, Ride or Die stars Kiko Mizuhara as Rei and Honami Sato (the drummer of the hip-hop/progressive band Gesu no Kiwami Otome) as Nanae, two friends with a complicated relationship.

Ryuichi Hiroki’s adaptation of the Nakamura manga sticks to the traditional yuri manga formula of same-sex relationships, but it doesn’t shy away from the violence. Its premise sounds like hard-boiled neo-noir: Nanae coerces her lesbian best friend to kill her abusive husband. The film also delves into the psychological dynamics of marital abuse, and it reveals that one of the primary drivers of domestic violence is male phallic insecurity.

Tuna Girl

A clumsy but cheery student takes up a placement at a tuna research facility despite not really fitting in. Featuring a lot of actual facts on tuna (and other fish) the movie is uplifting and a little bit quirky.

This movie is a must-watch for those who are looking for a cute and lighthearted film to watch. It has a charming story and is full of awe-inducing visuals. The acting is also top-notch, especially that of Fuka Koshiba who truly shines in her role as the naive Minami. It’s not an out-of-the-box flick and will probably fall into some cliches for true drama lovers but it does its job well.

Samuel L Jackson’s Filmography: A Major Star with Franchise Appeal

Posted on October 11, 2023 by nUNARCHa

How Many Movies Is Samuel L Jackson in?

This cult classic from director Quentin Tarantino was the breakthrough role that launched Jackson’s career. He exudes effortless cool smoking cigarettes and acting totally blasé about everything in this movie.

Jackson can take on dramas, actioners, horror films and some truly inspired kitsch, and he always adds some oomph.

1. Die Hard with a Vengeance

With this installment in the Die Hard series, Jackson teamed up with Bruce Willis. This time around, the pair take on a crazy evil genius named Simon.

Quentin Tarantino’s cult classic Pulp Fiction was perhaps the most significant film of Jackson’s career. He played Jules Winnfield, a preacher-like hit man who recites sermons over his victims before killing them. He was a hit, earning an Academy Award nomination for his role.

2. The 51st State

One of Jackson’s earliest film roles, this tense drama shows off the actor’s ability to convey emotions beyond mere rage.

Jackson’s stage work led to a relationship with Spike Lee and a series of early movie gigs. He was soon a major star with franchise appeal and a favorite of directors from Quentin Tarantino to Star Wars. He continues to star as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

3. Jackie Brown

Jackson first gained notice for his role as Jules Winnfield in Quentin Tarantino’s cult classic Pulp Fiction. The part brought him both critical acclaim and Oscar and Golden Globe nominations.

He then went on to hone his acting skills in theater and film, including Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever. His turn as Nick Fury in Marvel Cinematic Universe films has brought him even more recognition.

4. Shaft

Often acting as the lead actor or even co-lead, Jackson proves that he can still carry a movie. This is especially true with the classic Shaft.

This movie landed him roles in Spike Lee’s School Daze, Do the Right Thing, Mo’ Better Blues, and Pulp Fiction. He also teamed up with Tarantino again in Django Unchained and Chi-Raq. He even played Mace Windu in the Star Wars prequel trilogy.

5. Snakes on a Plane

When Hawaii vacationer Sean witnesses a mobster murder his legal prosecutor, the FBI assigns a tough but resourceful agent to protect and persuade him to testify in LA. Amid a sea of thinly drawn disaster movie stereotypes, including the germ-phobic flight attendant and the video game obsessed bodyguard (Flex Alexander and Kenan Thompson), Jackson is a standout.

Quentin Tarantino’s instant cult classic Pulp Fiction was another of Jackson’s breakout roles. He also appeared in Coach Carter, Shaft and Do the Right Thing.

6. Django Unchained

In the era of blockbuster films, few actors have had as a prolific career as Samuel L. Jackson. The actor has starred in 121 released film projects.

After appearing in several Hollywood flops like Patriot Games, Amos & Andrew, and Juice, Jackson found his breakthrough role in Quentin Tarantino’s cult classic Pulp Fiction. His performance as a loquacious bible-verse-spewing killer earned him numerous awards nominations.

7. The Hateful Eight

After starring in a string of Hollywood flops, Jackson began to turn in small but impactful performances like in Patriot Games and Jurassic Park. He went on to become a bona fide star with major franchise appeal, playing Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight pitted bounty hunter Ruth against vile criminal Daisy Domergue in a film fuelled by claustrophobia, suspicion, and intrigue.

8. Chi-Raq

In Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, Jackson portrays a Union officer turned bounty hunter whose survival instincts are tested in the snowy American West. He carries the role with grace and power, delivering one of his most complex performances.

Teyonah Parris stars as Lysistrata in Spike Lee’s twist on Aristophanes’ comedy about women withholding sex to end war. While this film is energetic, it doesn’t quite reach the level of Lee’s 1989 classic Do The Right Thing.

9. Unbreakable

The actor’s breakout role came in Quentin Tarantino’s cult classic Pulp Fiction as the loquacious Bible-verse-spewing hitman Jules Winnfield. Jackson’s performance moved and frightened audiences in equal measure.

David Dunn, the sole survivor of a train wreck, discovers he may have superhuman abilities when he meets comic book dealer Elijah Price. This is an excellent showcase for both actors. Unbreakable marks the beginning of a prolific phase for Jackson.

10. The Incredibles

Jackson’s elegantly besuited, cane-twirling fourth wall-breaking narrator makes a strong impression in this film.

It may be a kids’ movie, but it’s not afraid to tackle serious issues such as racial profiling. The Incredibles also features a healthy dose of good-natured humor that’ll spark laughs at any age.

Alternative Streaming Sites for Gen Z: AZ Movies, Streaming Apps, Movie Trailers

Posted on October 11, 2023 by nUNARCHa

Gen Z Movie Streaming Sites

If online trend reporting is to be believed – always a big if, admittedly – generation Z isn’t particularly interested in watching movies. They’re more likely to opt for shorter, smaller-screen fare like TikTok or YouTube.

A thinly fictionalized account of the murder of Greek politician Grigoris Lambrakis, Z captures Costa-Gavras’ outrage about the military junta that ruled his country. The film is also technically savvy.

AZ Movies

AZ Movies is a free and legal website that offers a wide variety of movies. It also has a large selection of television shows and web series that can be streamed. The site also has a huge catalog of top-rated films. This makes it easy to find a movie that suits your preferences. It even allows you to download videos.

Another benefit of using AZ Movies is that it does not require any signup or registration. This makes it a safe and secure alternative to other streaming sites. In addition, it does not ask for any credit card information or other personal details.

The AZ Movies website features a simple navigation system and a clean design. It also has a news section where you can stay up to date on the latest movies and TV episodes. Unlike some other sites, AZ Movies does not have pop-ups or ads, which can be distracting. Moreover, it does not use any spyware or malware to steal your information.

Streaming

If you’re looking for a way to stream movies online with friends, check out these apps. They allow you to watch together from afar and chat using text. Some even have a video conference call feature, so you can enjoy the movie with friends like in a theatre. They also let you share your screen and use a remote control.

Z starts off briskly and skillfully, with a soundless scene that underscores Josh’s isolation and some creepy old genre staples (like a woman taking a shower in a tub filled with candles) that are far more thoughtful and clever than regular jump scares. But as the film progresses, it becomes less spooky and more tedious, with gaps in character logic and some awkward pacing.

This movie is currently available to rent on Max and the Criterion Channel, as well as on Amazon Video. You can also download it for free on a number of streaming sites, including Vudu and Crackle.

Movie Trailers

Movie trailers are an integral part of a film’s marketing strategy. They fill audiences with anticipation and awe, and the best ones reveal just enough to leave them wanting more. Trailer editors use a variety of techniques to tell the story of the film, including montage and music. Most trailers have a three-act structure, similar to a feature-length film: a beginning that lays out the premise, a middle that drives the story forward, and a third act that builds up to the dramatic climax. Most trailers also include a cast run and a studio production logo.

Trailers are usually designed to appeal to a specific demographic. For example, an action-adventure film might target teens while a horror movie may aim for people over 25. Trailers often contain a visual montage, a voiceover, and a piece of music that will resonate with the audience. They also typically include a cast run, which is a list of the main actors and actresses in the film.

Reviews

A killer kid is a horror movie trope as tried and true as a spooky cemetery. Yet when Brandon Christensen’s Z hits Shudder, it doesn’t just trot out the standard elements and rely on a few jump scares. Instead, the film is a brisk and skillful fright flick that focuses on generating tension, building up the unknown, and employing clever camera setups to evoke terror rather than relying solely on cheap jump-scare tactics.

When her son’s imaginary friend begins inspiring his alarming behavior, a stay-at-home mother discovers that it is far from harmless. Yves Montand and Jean-Louis Trintignant star in this pulse-pounding political thriller. Based on a real-life event, this Academy Award winner features expressive verite photography and a tenacious magistrate determined to expose the truth. The public murder of a prominent politician and doctor amid a violent demonstration is covered up by military and government officials, but a tenacious magistrate won’t let them get away with it.

The Best Tips for Finding Good Movie Theater Seats

Posted on October 10, 2023 by nUNARCHa

How to Find the Best 2 Movie Theater Seats

Getting good seats in a movie theater is important for both the visual and aural experience. In general, THX recommends sitting in the center of your row and avoiding the seats to the left and right.

To calculate seating capacity, start by measuring the width of your home theater room and subtracting two aisles that are 20 inches wide. Then divide this new number by the chair width to get the number of seats that will fit in each row.

Aesthetics

The color of the seating is an important factor to consider as it can affect the aesthetics of your home theater. Many seats are available in a variety of colors, making it easy to find the one that best fits your room. The type of material that the seat is made from is also an important consideration. Most seating is either leather or fabric, but some have a combination of both. Some are even made of a breathable material that makes them a good option for people with allergies. There are also some seats that come with an accessory dock, which can help keep your popcorn bowl and other items neatly organized and out of the way.

Comfort

It’s important that the seating is comfortable, especially if you’re going to be in it for hours. Look for a seat that has an adjustable headrest and power lumbar support to ensure you can customize your comfort. This will keep your neck from getting stiff after reclining for a while and also eliminate lower back pressure build-up.

Some seats have a hidden storage for your food, drinks and other accessories. This is great if you want to avoid taking up space with large bags of popcorn or other snacks. Some seats even come with a small table that fits neatly into an accessory dock and can be lowered out of the way when not in use.

Consider buying a couple seat to share with your partner or friends. This will make it easy for everyone to plop themselves down in their seat without having to shimmy out every time they need to go to the bathroom or buy a snack. Assigned seats also minimize “traffic jams” that happen if everyone shows up at the theater around the same time and is left fighting over the best seats.

Durability

A good home theater seat must be able to handle a lot of use without losing its shape. It should also have a cup holder to hold drinks and snacks. The seat should also have an upholstered armrest that can be folded up for more comfort. Decorative aisle and end panels are also available for a unique look.

Some seats come with a tray table that can hold popcorn and drinks. This makes it easier for people to eat and drink in their seats without worrying about spilling or dropping food and drinks. The tray tables can also hook on to the accessory docks in the seats.

Home theater seating that is covered in top grain leather can last a long time if it’s properly taken care of. However, the leather can be scratched if it’s not treated with the right materials. The seat’s color can also influence how long the seat lasts. It’s important to choose a color that matches your room’s décor.

Affordability

The best way to secure good seats is to go early. The earliest showing of popular movies will be the least crowded, and you can choose your ideal seat without fighting for it with other moviegoers. You can also try to avoid going to theaters on weekends or holidays.

In order to get the most out of your experience, you should sit toward the center of the screen with three seats to the left and right. This way, you’ll be able to view the whole screen without straining your neck.

Another thing that you can do is to buy tickets online before going to the theater. This will save you time and money. You can even see which seats are available before you purchase them so you can plan your trip accordingly. In addition to that, you can find some great discounts on tickets online. Just make sure to check the website of your local theater before buying tickets.
